THE BEAUTIFICATION PROCESS ISNT BEAUTIFUL.
So today, I spent three unrecoverable hours on the road plying a distance that normally takes at most 45mins from mile 2 to Ikeja. This is because the Oshodi-Apapa express road is under going reconstruction.
This road is so notorious for spoilage. In the last five years, the road has undergone maintenance more than three times if my memory serves me correctly. Due to the construction work, there has been traffic jam as all vehicles go through one lane of the express road.
(I don't want to talk about the difficulties and the eventual disappointment of my journey to Ogba, its a story for another time).
Now, while in this hold-up, I began to think about life as I made my observation of the on going construction work.
Firstly, I remember the Oshodi Apapa express road is a very important economic road if not the most important one in the whole country. This express links the Apapa tin can to the rest of Lagos and Nigeria. The Apapa tin can or Apapa wharf is arguably the largest port in the whole of west Africa. Serving Nigeria and neighbouring countries including the surrounding land log countries with no direct access to the ocean. So you can only imagine how important the express road is to the economy of these nations.
Again, the load on that road is enormous, which is the reason for its constant spoilage and repair. I heard the current contractor has given a 30yrs guarantee on the current concrete work being laid on the road. So instead of the 6 months constant repairs, the new road will last at least 30yrs before the next repair work.
However, while the construction is ongoing to beautify this road in order for it to serve its herculean purpose, serious hardship is caused to its users. Traffic jam, dirt, blockages, dust, and all manners of inconveniences.
This is similar to life as I considered. While undergoing the building process, there's just got to be hiccups, dust must be raised along the way, dirts are bound to litter around because until construction is over there can't be clean up. Clean up is actually the last stage of every construction process.
Your dust and dirt depend on the stage you are, in your process. To some, it maybe deprivation from the fun, luxury and so many other beautiful things everyone is enjoying right now. Some, sacrifice of quality time with loved ones. Yours could be debts that are almost swallowing you up, others can be demotivation, lack of resources, connections or whatever, or any other thing as the case maybe representing the dirt in your life right now, remember today, you are undergoing a construction phase of a crowning process.
You just can't give up. Imagine if government had given up on the express road because of the demands it placed on it, will it serve its purpose in the scheme of things? You need to understand that you have a purpose greater than you, and the process you are going through right now is to prepare you for the task ahead. You need to keep pushing, keep believing, keep pursuing that dream, appreciate and enjoy the process because that's what will determine how much you are able to fulfil the ultimate purpose.
Next time you feel overwhelmed by all the dirt, dust, hiccups, blockages, disappointments, demoralised and tempted to give up, remember the beautification process is never beautiful.
When you are thoroughly beautified, with 30yrs guaranty placed on you, all the things you desire would be within reach. It took dangote 30yrs to build a conglomerate, and he became a billionaire, the richest in Nigeria and the richest in Africa, the richest black man in the world. Through his process, can you imagine what he endured?
